A large shallow bowl thrown with a blend of textured iron-rich clays and glazed in Winter Birch, one of the finishes in the Birch collection. The movement of the ash glaze across the wide surface creates subtle, unique shifts in tone and texture which vary with the direction and intensity of light. The inner surface ranges from a matt, dappled purple grey to a glassy rose gold. The outer surface is left unglazed to allow the simplicity of this tactile, earthly surface to frame the subtle vibrancy of the inner glazed surface.

Winter Birch: Looking out at a grove of birch in late winter / early spring, their spindly, draping purple branches and sleeping catkins covered in drops of fresh rain. Catching the low, golden evening light. A smooth, purple-blue-grey glaze with some golden crackle. Made with silver birch ash.

For use as a display piece for bringing the soft palette of a birch grove indoors, or for functional use as a fruit or serving bowl.
